Tax Year

The tax year is generally the calendar year. However, specific activities are assigned a different tax year as follows:

1 January to 31 December: Commercial banks, insurance, trade, and other services not covered by a different year-end;
1 April to 31 March: Industrial and oil companies;
1 July to 30 June: Agro-industrial companies; and
1 October to 30 September: Mining companies.

Tax Return Filing

The due date for filing tax returns along with the audited financial statements is 120 days from the close of the tax year.

Tax Payments

Corporate income tax is payable annually, within 120 days after the end of the tax year, except for mining companies, who are required to make advance payments of additional corporate income tax on a monthly basis.

COVID-19 Emergency Measures

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Bolivia announced that taxpayers who did not meet their payment obligations under the instalment facilities for tax debts and fines outstanding from 1 October 2019 to 24 July 2022 (extended from 30 June 2021), can resume the payments before 31 October 2022 under the same conditions as per the initial instalment facility.

In addition, the following instalment payment facilities were also provided to taxpayers in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, which stands extended for tax debts and fines outstanding until 24 July 2022:

The payment of corporate income tax for the year ending 31 December 2019 in up to three instalments, provided that 50% of the tax was paid before 1 June 2020;
Additionally, a three-month instalment facility was provided for corporate income tax payment for taxpayers (except Large and Main taxpayers), who were unable to meet their tax obligations for the tax year ended 31 December 2019 in full, by 31 August 2020, without interest or penalties. The tax payment schedule was as follows:

50% of the tax due – to be paid by 31 August 2020;
15% of the tax due – to be paid by 31 September 2020;
15% of the tax due – to be paid by 30 October 2020; and
20% of the tax due – to be paid by 30 November 2020;

An instalment payment facility for corporate income tax payment for the tax year ended 31 March 2020 for industrial enterprises (including construction companies classified as industrial enterprises and excluding oil companies), if they were unable to meet their tax obligations in full, by 30 October 2020. The tax payment schedule was as follows:

50% of the tax due - to be paid by 30 October 2020;
25% of the tax due - to be paid by 30 November 2020; and
25% of the tax due - to be paid by 31 December 2020;

Tax payment facility for the payment of customs duties relating to the import of goods for up to 36 months to support businesses amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

The above tax payment instalment facilities have been extended for taxpayers that previously failed to fulfill their payment obligations under instalment agreements up to 24 July 2022, even if collection actions are already being enforced. Taxpayers may continue their payments in instalments with the same conditions and benefits provided under their original instalment agreement as long as payments are resumed by 31 October 2022. Any partial payment of the outstanding tax debts and fines made after the expiry of the initial instalment facility, but before 24 July 2022, is treated as payment as per the initial instalment facility.
