Tax Year

The tax year in Senegal is the calendar year, 1 January to 31 December, except in case of cessation of business, in which case the tax year runs until the date of cessation of business. Also, companies formed on or after 1 June of a given year, may close their first fiscal year on 31 December of the following year. In that case, however, the company is required to file a provisional return for the period running from the date of formation until 31 December of the same year, followed by a final return covering the entire fiscal year.

Tax Return Filing

Annual tax returns must be filed by 30 of April following the close of the previous tax year.

Tax Payments

Companies in Senegal are required to make 2 advance tax payments; first by 15 February and the second by 30 April.

The first payment is equal to the minimum tax charged based on the company's revenue.

If the first payment is less than 1/3 of the previous year's tax liability, then the second payment is equal to 2/3 of the previous year's tax liability less the first payment amount.

If the first payment is greater than 1/3 of the previous year's tax liability, then the second payment is equal to 1/3 of the previous year's tax liability.

Any balance due must be paid by 15 June.

For new companies, no advance payments are due. The new company must pay the whole amount due by 15 June following the close of its first tax year.
