On 21 October 2021, Austria's Federal Council (upper house of parliament) approved the ratification of the pending social security agreement with Canada, following approval of the agreement by the National Council (lower house) on 13 October. The agreement, signed 5 July 2021, will enter into force on the first day of the fourth month after the ratification instruments are exchanged and, once in force and effect, will replace the 1987 social security agreement between the two countries.
