On 24 May 2018, the Belgian parliament approved a draft bill setting out the conditions for the taxation of port companies. The need to tax port companies is a result of a July 2017 decision of the European Commission that the Belgian tax exemption for domestic sea and inland ports was in violation of EU State aid rules.
