On 15 May 2024, Bulgaria's Council of Ministers reapproved the signing of a new income tax treaty with Malta. The signing of the treaty had been approved on 8 July 2020 but reapproval was necessary following further negotiations and revisions to the treaty text. The treaty must be signed and ratified before entering into force and, once in force and effective, will replace the 1986 tax treaty between the two countries.
