On 9 January 2018, officials from the Czech Republic and Germany began the second round of negotiations for a new income tax treaty. Any resulting treaty would be the first of its kind directly between the two countries and will replace the 1980 tax treaty between Germany and the former Czechoslovakia, which continues to apply in respect of the Czech Republic and Germany.
