Draft Bill Introduced for Bermuda Sugar Tax

The Government of Bermuda has issued a release on a draft Bill, the Customs Tariff Amendment (No 2) Act 2018, which has been introduced in parliament for the introduction of the sugar tax announced as part of Budget 2018-2019. The tax would be introduced through an increase of customs duty rates on sugar and certain sugar products, including sodas, energy drinks, non-100% fruit juices, and others. The rates will be increased to 50% from 1 October 2018 and to 75% from 1 April 2019.
