The German Federal Cabinet (Bundesregierung) has decided to temporarily extend the 7% reduced VAT rate to restaurant and catering services, with the exception of beverage sales, which is down from the standard 19% rate. The 7% rate already applies for take-out food and delivery. The extension of the reduced rate is meant to assist in the recovery of the economy from the COVID-19 pandemic and will apply from 1 July 2020 to 30 June 2021.
