The Indian government has reportedly approved amendments to the Finance Bill 2025 for the 2025-2026 Budget that will abolish the 6% equalization levy on online advertising services. The 6% equalization levy was introduced in 2016. A lower rate of 2% was introduced in 2020 on e-commerce supplies and was effectively abolished in 2024. The 6% equalization levy is to be abolished with effect from 1 April 2025.
