India Planning to Expand Equalization Levy on Digital Service Payments

India's Ministry of Finance is reportedly planning to launch consultations on changes to the country's equalization levy, which was introduced effective 1 June 2016 and is deducted at source at a rate of 6% on gross B2B cross-border payments for online advertising services if such payments exceeded INR 100,000 per year. Possible changes to the levy include increasing the rate to 8%, as well as expanding the scope of services to which it applies.
