According to a joint statement published by India's Ministry of External Affairs, the Prime Minister of India and the President of Sri Lanka met for discussions on 16 December 2024. Among other things, the two leaders agreed on the need to continue discussions for finalization of a social security agreement. Any resulting agreement would be the first of its kind between the two countries and must be finalized, signed, and ratified before entering into force.
