Iran Removes Ban on Taxing Interest Income on Bank Deposits of Legal Persons

According to recent reports, Iran's Islamic Consultative Assembly (parliament, or Majilis) has approved the removal of the ban on taxing interest income on bank deposits of legal persons. With the removal of the ban, interest income on bank deposits of legal persons is no longer exempt from tax with effect from 20 March 2022. Individuals and certain legal persons remain exempt, however, including sovereign wealth funds, pension funds, and insurance companies.
