Japan's Ministry of Finance issued a release on 27 May 2022 announcing that Japan and Azerbaijan have agreed in principle on a new income tax treaty. The treaty must be signed and ratified before entering into force and, once in force and effective, will replace the 1986 tax treaty between Japan and the former Soviet Union as it applies with respect to Azerbaijan and Japan.
