Japan's Ministry of Finance issued a release on 13 October 2023 announcing that Japan and Turkmenistan have agreed in principle on a new income tax treaty. The treaty must be signed and ratified before entering into force and, once in force and effective, will replace the 1986 tax treaty between Japan and the former Soviet Union as it applies in respect of Japan and Turkmenistan.
