According to a release from Japan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, officials from Japan and Laos met on 29 May 2025 to discuss bilateral relations and agreed on promoting efforts toward the early conclusion of an income tax treaty. Any resulting treaty would be the first of its kind between the two countries and must be finalized, signed, and ratified before entering into force.
