Kazakhstan Considering Increase in Standard VAT Rate to 16%

The Kazakhstan government is reportedly considering an increase in the standard VAT rate from 12% to 16% in order to raise revenue to fund infrastructure development in relation to trade with China and Europe. Along with the increase in the standard rate, reduced rates would also be introduced for essential goods and medicines. As currently planned, the VAT changes will be implemented from January 2025.
