Kenya Reducing Tax Rates in Response to COVID-19

Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta announced on 25 March that he has instructed the National Treasury to implement the following immediate relief in response to COVID-19:

• 100% tax relief for persons earning gross monthly income of up to KES 24,000;
• a reduction in the top pay-as-you-earn (PAYE) tax rate for individuals from 30% to 25%;
• a reduction in the resident corporate tax rate from 30% to 25%;
• a reduction in the turnover tax rate from 3% to 1% for micro, small, and medium enterprises; and
