Officials from Maldives and Sri Lanka are accelerating tax treaty negotiations to promote greater economic cooperation between their countries, according to a September 23 release published by the Sri Lankan Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Sri Lanka first announced its intention to sign a tax treaty with Maldives in February 2020. This would be the first agreement of its kind between the two countries. It must be signed and ratified by both contracting parties before entering into force.
