Mexico's Congress reportedly passed legislation on 15 October 2019 that provides new rules for the treatment of tax fraud as organized crime and subject to related penalties, including mandatory prison sentences and the seizure of assets. This covers fraud involving the issuance, sale, purchase, or acquisition of false invoices and other fraud, including unlawfully obtaining tax subsidies, failing to report actual income in tax returns, and failing to remit VAT.
