The National Tax Tribunal Act 2005 has come into force as of 28 December 2005 vide Notification No. SO 1826(E) dated 28 December 2005. This Act has been enacted to deal with direct and indirect tax litigation in India. Appeals against the orders of Income Tax Appellate Tribunals will now lie to the National Tax Tribunal and not to the High Courts.
