New Zealand's Labour party, which currently heads the government, has issued a tax plan to fund the cost of dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic. The main measure of the plan is the introduction of a new top personal income tax rate of 39% on income exceeding NZD 180,000. For couples, the NZD 180,000 threshold would apply separately for each individual. New Zealand's current top personal income tax rate is 33% on income exceeding NZD 70,000.
