According to a release from the Philippine News Agency, Finance Secretary Ralph Recto met with senior Netflix officials on 20 August 2024 to discuss the proposed 12% VAT on foreign digital service providers, with the officials expressing strong support for the measure. The proposal was previously approved by the House of Representatives in December 2022, but failed to pass in the Senate. It was recently reintroduced.
