The U.S. President Biden's Council of Economic Advisers has issued a release on a proposed Digital Asset Mining Energy (DAME) excise tax. After a phase-in period, the proposed DAME excise tax would be imposed at a rate of 30% of the cost of the electricity used by firms in mining crypto assets (cryptomining, for short). The tax is meant to address the economic and environmental costs of cryptomining.
