President Trump Threatens and Postpones 50% Tariff on EU Goods

U.S. President Donald Trump announced via a Truth Social post on 23 May 2025 that he was recommending a 50% tariff on goods imported from the EU effective 1 June 2025. On 25 May, President Trump announced that he agreed to extend the effective date to 9 July 2025. The extension was agreed to following a call with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.
