Proposed Windfall Profits Tax Also Rejected in French Senate

On 1 August 2022, the French Senate (upper house of parliament) rejected the inclusion of a windfall (super) profits tax as part of the draft Amending Finance Bill for 2022. This follows a rejection of similar proposed measures in the National Assembly (lower house) in the previous week. The tax was proposed to be levied on companies in the energy and freight transport sectors at a rate of 25% on the surplus profits of companies in these sectors in 2022 and 2023.
