On 1 October 2020, officials from Malta and Russia signed an amending protocol to the 2013 income tax treaty between the two countries, which includes an increase in the rate of withholding tax on dividend and interest income to 15%, with an exceptional 5% rate for a limited list of institutional investments and certain qualifying companies.
