The Romanian government has reportedly authorized the negotiation and signing of an amending protocol to the 1981 income and capital tax treaty with Cyprus that will increase the withholding tax rate on dividends and interest to 15% (currently, 10%). The protocol will be the first to amend the treaty and must be finalized, signed, and ratified before entering into force.
