According to recent reports, the Russian government is considering measures that would increase the taxation of certain mining, oil, and tobacco companies in order to fund budget shortfalls. With regard to mining and oil, potential measures include tripling the mineral extraction tax (MET) on metals and fertilizer producers and the removal of the MET zero-rate for high-viscosity oil from 2021.
