According to a release from Mongolia's Ministry of Labour and Social Protection, officials from Mongolia and Russia met on 8 December 2023 for the fourth round of negotiations for a new social security agreement. The agreement must be finalized, signed, and ratified before entering into force and, once in force and effective, will replace the 1981 agreement between Mongolia and the former Soviet Union, which still applies in relations between Mongolia and Russia.
