On 16 August 2023, the Sao Tome and Principe Council of Ministers approved the ratification of the pending social security agreement with Portugal. The agreement, signed 17 February 2004, is the first of its kind between the two countries and will enter into force on the first day of the second month after the ratification instruments are exchanged.
