On 18 May 2022, the Slovak Republic government approved a proposal from Finance Minister Igor Matovic for the introduction of a special tax on Russian oil processed in the country. The proposed tax, which is subject to approval in parliament, would be levied at a rate of 30% on the price difference (discount) between crude oil from Russia compared to the price for crude oil from other suppliers (Brent crude oil price).
