South Korea's Ministry of Economy and Finance has announced that the threshold for capital gains tax on the transfer (sale) of listed shares will be increased for transfers that take place from 1 January 2024. Currently, persons with shares worth more than KRW 1 billion in a single company are considered large shareholders and thus are subject to tax on capital gains from share transfers at rates ranging from 22% to 27.5% for long-term gains and a rate of 33% for short-term gains.
