On 28 July 2020, the Spanish Cabinet approved the new income tax treaty with Japan. The treaty, signed 16 October 2018, will enter into force on the first day of the third month following the exchange of the ratification instruments and will generally apply from 1 January of the year following its entry into force. Once in force and effective, the new treaty will replace the 1974 tax treaty between the two countries.
