On 13 November 2019, the Swedish parliament approved the bill for the ratification of the pending protocol to the 2002 income tax treaty with Portugal. The protocol, signed 16 May 2019 ({News-2019-05-17/T/5-previous coverage}), is the first to amend the treaty and will enter into force 30 days after the ratification instruments are exchanged and will generally apply from 1 January of the year following its entry into force.
