While speaking during a House Ways and Means Committee hearing held 17 June, U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer confirmed that the U.S. has decided to withdraw from negotiations on digital services taxes under pillar one of the OECD's two-pillar proposal to address the tax challenges of the digital economy. Lighthizer indicated that the withdrawal is due to a lack of headway in negotiations, although there is still room for a negotiated settlement.
